## Town of Bernalillo, Not Bernalillo County: Where We Come From
The Town of Bernalillo is the county seat of Sandoval County. Albuquerque, where our shop is, sits in Bernalillo County, which is a different place. Our shop at 3803 3rd St NW in Albuquerque is about 16 miles from the Town of Bernalillo, roughly 20 minutes by car with no traffic. Call [(505) 347-2895](tel:+15053472895) and we will give you a real arrival time.
The mix-up dates to 1903, when Sandoval County was created from the northern part of Bernalillo County. The town is compact, about 5.3 square miles with 8,977 people (2020 Census). Camino del Pueblo, once part of El Camino Real and the original Route 66, is the street most people name, and Town Hall at 829 Camino del Pueblo makes a good landmark.

## Rekeying Manufactured and Site-Built Homes in Bernalillo
You just bought a manufactured home in Bernalillo. The seller mentioned a few keys still floating around, and the door hardware looks original. Fair question: can it be rekeyed? Many manufactured home door locks can be rekeyed like any house lock, while some older or specialty units are better off with new hardware. Call [(505) 347-2895](tel:+15053472895), describe the lock, and ask for the price first.
That situation is common here. About 31% of the town's housing units are mobile homes and about 77% of occupied homes are owner-occupied (Census Bureau, ACS 2020 to 2024). The median home was built in 1992. Plenty of buyers move in with no idea how many copies of the key exist.

### Rekey or replace?
Rekey when the locks work and you just want the old keys dead. Replace when the hardware is worn, damaged or not worth rekeying. Our [rekeying vs. lock replacement cost comparison](https://roadrunnerlockandkeynm.com/rekeying-vs-lock-replacement-cost-comparison/) lays out the trade-off, and the [ultimate guide to residential lock rekeying](https://roadrunnerlockandkeynm.com/ultimate-guide-to-residential-lock-rekeying/) shows what happens inside the lock.

## Lost Car Keys in Bernalillo: Cut and Programmed Where the Car Is
Lost your only key, got a fob that quit, or a push-to-start car that won't recognize its key? You don't have to tow it to a dealer. Roadrunner Lock and Key cuts and programs replacement car keys and fobs at the vehicle, 24/7. Call [(505) 347-2895](tel:+15053472895) with the year, make and model so we can confirm that vehicle before we drive up.
Big weekends are when keys go missing: the New Mexico Wine Festival every Labor Day, and Las Fiestas de San Lorenzo, which the Town lists among its events. Check the event lost and found first, then call us with the vehicle details.

## Locks for Shops and Offices Along Camino del Pueblo
The Town of Bernalillo calls itself a "retail trade and service center for this part of the Rio Grande basin," and plenty of that trade happens along Camino del Pueblo. For shops and offices in town, we handle commercial lockouts, rekeying after an employee leaves, and master key systems. Rekeying after turnover means keys that left with someone stop working, without buying new hardware.

## How to Check Who Is Coming Before You Open the Door
Some "Bernalillo locksmith" websites are a template with the town name dropped in and a local-looking address. Before you hire anyone, run the 505 Test: a business name when they answer, a 505 number, a street address you can find on Google Maps, a marked vehicle and a total price before they drive out. Our [car lockout scams guide](https://roadrunnerlockandkeynm.com/car-lockout-albuquerque-scams/) covers the other red flags.

Bernalillo questions

## Asked and answered
Seven questions we hear from Bernalillo callers, answered the way we would on the phone.

### ### Do you serve the Town of Bernalillo or Bernalillo County?
Both, but they are different places. The Town of Bernalillo is the county seat of Sandoval County. Bernalillo County is the county that contains Albuquerque. Roadrunner Lock and Key is based in Albuquerque and covers the Town of Bernalillo too. Our shop is about 16 miles from the town, roughly 20 minutes by car with no traffic. Call (505) 347-2895 for a real arrival time.

### ### Can a locksmith rekey the locks on a mobile or manufactured home?
Often, yes. Many manufactured home door locks can be rekeyed so the old keys stop working, the same way a site-built house is rekeyed. Some older or specialty units use hardware that is better replaced than rekeyed. Call Roadrunner Lock and Key at (505) 347-2895, describe the lock on each door, and ask for the price before anyone comes out.

### ### My grandmother is locked out in Bernalillo and I am at work in Albuquerque. Can I call for her?
Yes. Call (505) 347-2895 with her address in Bernalillo, her name and a phone number where we can reach her. We will give you the price before anyone drives out. Then call her back and tell her a locksmith from Roadrunner Lock and Key is on the way and what the price is, so nothing at the door catches her by surprise.

### ### Should I call a locksmith or the dealership if I lose my only car key in Bernalillo?
If the car is stuck where you lost the key, a mobile locksmith is usually simpler. A dealership typically needs the car brought to it, which can mean paying for a tow on top of the key. Roadrunner Lock and Key cuts and programs many keys and fobs at the car. Call (505) 347-2895 with the year, make and model so we can confirm first.

### ### How will I know the person who shows up is from Roadrunner Lock and Key?
Ask before we arrive. When you call (505) 347-2895, we tell you the business name, the price and roughly when to expect us. When the technician gets there, ask which company they work for, and check that the price matches what you heard on the phone. If anything does not match, you can say no and call someone else.

### ### Is there an extra charge to come out to Bernalillo?
We will tell you on the phone, before anyone drives out. Call (505) 347-2895 with your location in Bernalillo and what you need, such as a car lockout, a rekey or a new key fob, and Roadrunner Lock and Key will quote the total, including any travel charge. If the price changes at your door without a clear reason, you can refuse the work.

### ### My keys are locked in my car at the Rail Runner lot on US 550. Can you come tonight?
Yes, we take calls 24/7. Call (505) 347-2895 and tell us which lot you are in, upper or lower, plus your vehicle year, make and model. We will quote the price and give you a real arrival time before we leave. Our shop is about 16 miles away, roughly 20 minutes by car with no traffic.
