Where Enchanted Hills Is, and How Far We Drive

Enchanted Hills is a roughly 2,000-acre development inside the City of Rio Rancho, generally bounded on the north by US 550. Rio Rancho annexed it in 1993, when a master plan for the whole neighborhood was adopted. Lomas Encantadas, once called Enchanted Hills South, is the 840-acre area to its south, running toward Chayote Road, Lincoln Road and NM 528.

Our shop at 3803 3rd St NW in Albuquerque is about 20 miles from Enchanted Hills, roughly 30 minutes by car with no traffic. Call (505) 347-2895 and we will give you a real arrival time.

Moving Into a New Build? Retire the Construction Keys

You just closed on a brand-new house in Lomas Encantadas. If the builder ran it on construction keys and a lockbox while trades came and went for months, can those keys still open your doors? You usually can't know. Rekeying at move-in changes the pins so every earlier key stops working, and you keep the new hardware you paid for.

Homes are still going up. The master plan notes parts of the area remain undeveloped and that new commercial sites have opened along NM 528. The Lomas Encantadas/Enchanted Hills Public Improvement District, set up in 2016, anticipates about 1,037 homes. Every one was a job site before it was a home.

Don't skip the garage entry door

The door from the garage into the house is the one people forget. Rekey it with the front and back doors so one new key runs the house.

Why rekey instead of replacing new locks

Your locks are new and they work. The problem is who else holds a key. Read 5 signs you need to rekey your home locks and the ultimate guide to residential lock rekeying.

Moving in this weekend? Book the rekey before the boxes come off the truck.

Smart Locks That Stop Working, and Smart Locks Done Right

Your smart lock stopped responding tonight and the builder's backup key won't turn. Try two things first. If your model has battery contacts on the outside, hold a fresh battery to them and see if the keypad wakes up. Then try the backup key gently, without forcing it. Still stuck outside? Call (505) 347-2895 with the brand and model.

We take calls 24/7, and we'll quote two prices: getting you in, and repairing or replacing the lock.

Smart lock or keyed deadbolt?

A smart lock lets you hand out and delete codes for family, sitters or contractors without cutting keys. It also needs fresh batteries and a backup key you've actually tested. A good keyed deadbolt has nothing to charge. Plenty of owners put a smart deadbolt on the main door and keep keyed locks everywhere else.

Adding one to a new home

If you want a smart deadbolt on a new house, we can install it and rekey the rest of the locks on the same visit, with the price quoted up front. DIY? See our smart lock install guide.

Enchanted Hills questions

Asked and answered

Seven questions we hear from Enchanted Hills callers, answered the way we would on the phone.

Is Enchanted Hills part of Rio Rancho, and do you cover Lomas Encantadas?

Yes to both. Enchanted Hills is a master-planned community of about 2,000 acres inside the City of Rio Rancho, with US 550 to the north. Lomas Encantadas is the newer area to its south, toward NM 528. Roadrunner Lock and Key covers both as part of our Rio Rancho service. Call (505) 347-2895 with your street or nearest cross street for a price and a real arrival time.

We just moved into a new build in Enchanted Hills. Could construction keys still open our doors?

It is possible, and you usually cannot know who still has one. During construction, builders, real estate agents and trades often have keys or lockbox codes. Rekeying at move-in changes the pins inside your locks so every earlier key stops working, and you keep your new hardware. Ask us to include the garage entry door, since it is easy to forget.

My in-laws are house-sitting in Enchanted Hills and the smart lock died. Can I call for them?

Yes. Call (505) 347-2895 with the address, their names and a phone number where we can reach them, plus the smart lock brand if you know it. We will quote the price before we dispatch. Let your in-laws know we are on the way, and tell us who will meet the technician at the door, so everyone knows who to expect.

Smart lock or keyed deadbolt for a new Enchanted Hills home?

Both work; it depends on your household. A smart lock lets you give and remove codes for family, sitters or contractors without copying keys, but it needs fresh batteries and a tested backup key. A quality keyed deadbolt has nothing to charge. Many owners use a smart deadbolt on the main door and keyed locks elsewhere. We install either and can rekey the keyed locks to match.

Are the reviews on your page from Enchanted Hills customers?

Not necessarily, and we will not claim they are. The reviews shown come from our Google Business Profile, where customers from across the Albuquerque area leave them. You can read all of them on Google, where the widget showed 132 reviews when this page was written. Judge us by what those customers say, wherever they live.

Do you charge more for Enchanted Hills than for the rest of Rio Rancho?

We quote every job on the phone before anyone drives out, so you will know the total first. Enchanted Hills is about 20 miles from our Albuquerque shop, roughly 30 minutes by car with no traffic. The price depends mostly on the job, such as a car lockout, a smart lock lockout or rekeying a whole new house. Call (505) 347-2895 with your address and what you need.

Our smart lock stopped working and the builder's backup key will not turn. Can you get us in tonight?

Call us and ask. We take calls 24/7. Call (505) 347-2895 with the lock brand and model if you know it, and whether the keypad lights up at all. We will quote the price for opening the door and for repairing or replacing the lock, then give you a real arrival time. Do not force the backup key, since a bent or broken key makes the job harder.
