We Are an Albuquerque Shop. Here Is What That Means for Santa Fe
You want a Santa Fe locksmith who tells you honestly how long it takes to get there. Here it is. Our shop at 3803 3rd St NW in Albuquerque is about 61 miles from Santa Fe, roughly 70 minutes by car with no traffic. Call (505) 347-2895 and we will give you a real arrival time.
So Santa Fe jobs go best when they're planned. You call, we quote the total, we book a time, and we bring what the job needs.
Locked out right now? Call anyway and we'll tell you plainly when we could be there. If you can't wait that long, a Santa Fe-based locksmith will often be closer.

Call (505) 347-2895How We Get to Santa Fe
Most trips from our Albuquerque shop to Santa Fe run straight up I-25. The other road in is NM 14, the Turquoise Trail, which runs through the East Mountains and ends in Santa Fe, so we use it when we also have a stop in Cedar Crest.
Santa Fe covers about 52.3 square miles and had 87,505 people at the 2020 Census, so give us your street and nearest cross street.
Short-Term Rentals: Rekey Between Guests or Go Keyless
A guest checked out, the key never came back, and new guests arrive in three days. Now you have a choice: rekey that lock so the missing key is dead, or put a keypad on the door so there's no key to lose next time. We can do either one, or both, on a single booked visit.
First, the rules belong to the City, not to us. Santa Fe defines a short-term rental as any dwelling unit rented for less than 30 calendar days. Each one needs a Business Registration plus a permit or registration that depends on zoning. For anything about permits, check the City of Santa Fe short-term rental page. We handle the locks.
Rekey or keypad?
Rekey when a key goes missing and bookings are spread out. If guests turn over every few days, a keypad usually makes more sense: each guest gets a code you delete at checkout. Keep one keyed backup somewhere secure. See how to install a smart lock and our complete guide to rekeying your home's locks.
Guest kept the key? Book a rekey or keypad install before the next check-in.
Call (505) 347-2895Older and Historic Homes: Locks Without Changing the Door
Your adobe's front door lock is worn out, and you're wondering whether fixing it means going through City review. Start with the lock, not the door. Rekeying works inside your existing lock and leaves the door alone. If you plan to replace an exterior door in a historic district, check with the City's Historic Preservation Division first.
About 19% of Santa Fe homes were built before 1960, per the U.S. Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey. The City's Historic Districts application lists windows and doors among repair requests that may need Historic Districts Review Board approval, and it lists door replacement as district dependent.
If the work would change the door itself, get the City's answer first, then we fit the lock to the approved door. Our rekeying vs. lock replacement cost comparison and ultimate guide to lock maintenance walk through the trade-offs.
Second Homes and Property Manager Changes
You own a second home in Santa Fe and you just switched property managers. The old manager, the cleaners and maybe a caretaker all had keys. Rekeying every exterior lock makes those keys useless in one visit. If you keep a car at the house, we can program a key fob for it on the same trip.
You have company. About 2,000 Santa Fe homes are held for seasonal, recreational or occasional use, per the same Census survey.
Plan it as one trip so the drive is spread across several jobs. More on key fob replacement and programming and 5 signs you need to rekey your home locks.
Who We Are
Roadrunner Lock and Key is a mobile locksmith based at 3803 3rd St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107, and owned by Genaro Vasquez. That Albuquerque address is our only one. We answer at (505) 347-2895, we quote the price over the phone before we drive, and you can read 132 Google reviews before you book anything.
Read them on our Google Business Profile. They come from across our service area, not specifically Santa Fe. Before you book any out-of-town locksmith, run the 505 Test from our car lockout scams guide.
Between Albuquerque and Santa Fe
Santa Fe sits at the north end of the area we cover from Albuquerque. Along the I-25 route we also serve Bernalillo and Placitas. On NM 14, the Turquoise Trail, we serve Cedar Crest in the East Mountains. Back home, see our Albuquerque locksmith page. Each is a shorter drive for us.
